Heavy Duty Canoe Thwart
Thwarts add strength and stiffness to your canoe. Canoes 14ft to 15ft long generally have a yoke in the center plus one thwart.
Canoes 16ft or greater will have two thwarts in addition to the yoke. Made one at a time with a durable finish. We start with 1" thick select ash stock, trimmed and finished by hand to 7/8" thickness.
Solid Ash wood with a clear, UV-resistant, varnish finish.

Any of these thwarts are easily trimmed to fit your exact canoe perfectly - just seal the cut end with exterior polyurethane or varnish.
Choose a straight profile thwart OR a shaped profile thwart.
Our most popular 36 inch length may has a shaped profile with a sealed square end cut. -this is easily trimmed at any length and cut angle to perfectly fit your canoe. Length: 36" Width: 2 5/8" Thickness: 7/8" Weight: @ 27 ounces.
Our 40 inch and 41 inch Straight thwart may also be used in the center of a canoe. Our 33.5 inch, 40 inch and 41 inch length have a straight profile and a sealed square end cut. -this is easily trimmed at any length and cut angle to perfectly fit your canoe. We use this straight thwart as a base when mounting gear tracks and rod holders since it has a broader surface than factory issued thwarts with a shaped profile.
32, 32.5 and 34.5 inch lengths have a shaped profile and a sealed tapered end cut.
Our 40 inch straight thwart has a square end cut -very popular since it can can easily be cut to fit perfectly in so many models. Length: 40" Width: 2 5/8" Thickness: 7/8" Weight: @ 26 ounces.

Pack, Pack Angler and Discovery 119 models use the 29 inch thwart with a more slender profile than other models. Overall Length: 29 1/4" Width: 2 1/8" Thickness: 3/4" Weight: @ 16 ounces.
The 32.5 inch Thwart is measured to the longest point (ends are angled). The 32.5 inch thwart is the only size in use by Old Town today. We stock 34.5 inch, 32.5 inch and 32 inch sizes for Old Town canoes in our Heavy Duty Thwart.
Most models use a shaped or contour thwart (from overhead view). Pack, Pack Angler and Discovery 119 models use the 29 inch thwart with a straight profile. The 32 inch, 32.5 inch and 34.5 inch Thwarts are measured to the longest point (ends are angled). The Tripper XL used a 33.5 Thwart with a straight profile.
