For over 40 years Royalex was the best material on the market for whitewater and expedition canoes.
When the manufacturer of Royalex ceased production in 2014, Esquif saw an opportunity to design and produce our own new and improved Royalex 2.0 at the home of Esquif in Quebec, Canada, we call this new version T-FORMEX.
With 18 years of experience making Royalex canoes we wanted to create something that would allow us to use our existing molds while not compromising the toughness that our customers demand.
T-FORMEX LITE is available on a limited basis for 2025, along with original, extra rugged T-FORMEX.
LITE models have a lighter hull, as well as lighter gunwales, lighter seats and lighter thwarts.
This can add up to 4 lbs, 10 lbs, or even more in weight savings depending on the model.
T-FORMEX LITE can still provide very good durability when compared to composite type canoe materials.
We stock the New T-formex LITE as well as the original, extra-rugged T-formex.
Not all models and colors are available in the LITE version.
Scout, Prospecteur 15, 16, 17 and All Square Stern models are always the original, extra-rugged T-formex only.

When the wind picks up later in the day its lower profile will offer improved tracking and control. This lower profile reduces weight quite a bit, and also makes it much easier to paddle in breezy conditions as either a solo or tandem. The easy paddling and light feel of a Penobscot from Old Town, and that great shallow Vee hull is slender like the Malecite, but with more depth and just so gosh darn versatile like the Explorer from Mad River.
