IMPEX KAYAKS
Mystic
|
Impex "Mystic"
The Mystic was
designed for smaller paddlers who still want big sea kayak performance. At 14'
long and 21.5" wide it is a perfectly downsized sea kayak. It is outfitted with
a round rubber hatch in the front, and an oval rubber hatch in the rear, giving
this boat great overnight appeal. Everything is kept dry and rigid with 2
fiberglass concave bulkheads. A retractable skeg is standard for the days when
the weather just won't cooperate. Built with the Impex philosophy of greater
initial stability, this boat gives a very comfortable ride without sacrificing
performance. Match this perfect sized boat to your body and ability and watch
as you lead the pack of over sized kayaks and over worked paddlers.

the greater primary stability in our kayaks. We have found an excellent

rocker, this what gives these boats the versatility that makes them special.
Our High Performance Line has a flatter rocker, which gives it better hull
speed and tracking for touring. The rocker is enough to turn with a paddle

maneuverability to explore the tightest spots in the local creek or race
confidently down the biggest wave face.
Medium. A Medium Chine
allows the kayak to have excellent secondary stability while edging the kayak,
maintaining the comfort and stability that we all demand. This feature allows

The Montauk has taken its place among the 16x22's with confidence,
giving small to medium sized paddlers what we feel to be the fastest and most
stable of the lot. Two oval rubber hatches and a third 8 inch round day hatch
gives plenty of carrying capacity for extended camping trips or the gear happy
day boater. With great tracking this fast 16 footer gives paddlers who enjoy
longer trips the option of a smaller, easy to maneuver kayak. The Montauk comes

Assateague
|
Impex "Assateague"

The Assateague offers the larger to XXL sized paddler the comfort
they need to spend hours in their kayak. Since its debut two years ago it has
become the top choice of larger paddlers around the country. The key is our
larger cockpit opening and comfortable yet simple outfitting. By increasing the
size of the cockpit, not the mid ship, we allow for easy exit and entry while
keeping a tight fit for control. At 17'10", we are able to offset the 22.5"
width to allow for cleaner gentle lines. This allows for more speed, so
covering the longest distance will be a snap in this well outfitted, easy to
paddle Greenland style kayak. 3 rubber hatches keep gear dry and below deck
while the compass recess waits to get us home through the darkest of fog banks.
Tied together for strength and maximum dryness with 3 fiberglass bulkheads, the
Assateague is ready to take on any water condition from morning glass to
10-foot seas.

Hull
Design- Shallow V. Primary stability is the key to comfortable
paddling, whether slowing down to relax and take in the sights or coming out of
a protected bay into the wind and swells. Although the Pro Tour series has a
narrower beam to increase responsiveness, our standard shallow V hull gives
paddlers more primary stability. This gives paddlers the ability to push their
limits with confidence and comfort no matter what their skill level.
Rocker- All Greenland style kayaks will have
increased rocker, this is what gives these boats the versatility that makes
them special. However the Pro Tour Series drops the rocker out to a minimal
level. Still allowing for comfort and control in large waves and tight rocky
shorelines, but with the maximum focus on efficiency and speed for long
distance touring. Although it may take more edge control to make these kayaks
turn, the compromise pays dividends at the end of the longest paddling
days.
Aggressive Medium.
Impex Kayaks tries out some new terminology. A Medium Chine allows the kayak to
have excellent secondary stability while edging the kayak, maintaining the
comfort and stability that we all demand. This design allows the paddler to
edge the boat confidently to obtain a fast turn, without the potential of
tripping over hard chines, especially in bigger water and high winds. With the
lower rocker profile of the Pro Tour Series, to increase efficiency, we needed
to be creative to keep the kayak maneuverable and solid on edge in the rough
conditions it was designed for. Hence, the Aggressive Medium. Harder than what
we use on out Performance Tour Line, this design allows for more bite on the
water for tighter turns. This along with the narrower beam does wonders to get
this flatter rockered 18 footer coming around more quickly and gliding
gracefully down wave faces. The chine is however not a true hard chine, keeping
water flowing smoothly and keeping the kayak more stable on edge, especially in
beam seas.

Outer Island
|
Impex "Outer Island"
We are proud to introduce for the first time in composite lay up,
the Outer Island. Designed in 1995, by paddler designer Jay Babina, with
performance, rolling ability, low windage and speed as the main criteria. At 18
feet long, only 21 inches wide and with very little hull rocker, it has loads
of speed for touring. Its low rear deck makes her a perfect fit for the
beginner to advanced Eskimo roller. Soft chines allow for graceful control
between steady primary and secondary stability. Allowing for increased success
even when perfecting the most challenging of Greenland rolls and braces.
Whether you love this kayak for its sheer elegance, a fast touring kayak or a
rolling machine, we promise you will love it.

Shallow V.The shallow

the greater primary stability in our kayaks. We have found an excellent
compromise between stability and performance that allows our kayaks to appeal

Rocker- the flatter rocker of the Outer Island is what
gives this kayak its amazing hull speed. Harder to turn in the tight spots due
to the stiffer hull, it is certainly a compromise. However as your skills grow
the Outer Island comes around with grace and you can never say enough about the
speed.
Soft. A Soft Chine, while
still giving excellent stability on edge, allows for smooth transition from
primary to secondary stability. It is this trait that allows for this kayak to
be such an easy kayak in which to practice and master even the hardest
traditional Greenland braces and rolls.

Irie w/rudder
|
Impex Irie w/rudder
Let's face it, Impex is a sea kayak company. We weren't going to stray
far from our roots. The Irie offers a class of kayak we call, "Sea- Rec."
Stability is the key here, and at 24" wide it gives paddlers of any ability a
comfortable ride. The shallow V hull and tapered bow gives the Irie the same
smooth ride as our more performance oriented sea kayaks. Even with the standard
rudder for easy maneuvering, the Irie weighs in at a mere 40lbs. Comfort and
support are provided by the "High Riser" back band by Immersion Research. For
the paddler not concerned by performance this back band will certainly give the
best option in comfort and support. For the ultimate in light weight and
simplicity we offer the Irie Basic. Offering the same great comfort and
paddling ability, the Irie Basic just leaves the rudder behind - saving a few
valuable pounds and leaving a few dollars behind to enjoy the laid back vibe.
Have an Irie day.

- Chine-
using a multi hard chine we pick up the stability we lose by giving the Irie a shallow V in the hull. Everyone knows the most stable of boats, like a Jon Boat, use flat hulls. The problem there is that we donšt intend on putting a motor behind our kayak to propel it, we plan on doing that with a paddle. The Shallow V gives a kayak the best stability while maintaining efficient paddling, let is still not as stable as a flat bottom. By adding the stability of the multi chine we now have a great combination of stability and efficient paddling.

Impex Formula Series - Seabreeze
Seabreeze |
 |
| Lightweight and simple is the
key to this little boat's success. For smaller paddlers this kayak offers the
same efficient hull as the Gale, yet without the
added weight and expense of a front bulkhead and hatch or skeg. Keeping this
kayak down to only 38 pounds allows many smaller paddlers the ability to be
independent in carrying and loading their kayak. Still keeping the comfort of
our "Points of Contact" Outfitting this boat is not a cheap kayak, just a
simple, more modest version of our Performance Line boats. For those paddlers
where strong wind keeps their boats on the shore and an expedition is once
around the closest island on the pond, the Sea Breeze could be the right
choice. |

Impex "Temiskawa" |
 |
"The more the merrier" Who ever came up with this famous quote was certainly onto something. There is something to be said for being able to share with friends, family and loved ones something we are so passionate about. Like the rest of our line we have come up with an easier to paddle and handle double. There are several great expedition doubles out there, so why try and clutter things with another version. Short, narrower and certainly lightweight, the Temiskawa allows more people to enjoy the benefits of Tandem paddling on a less than expedition size trip. By no means turning our backs entirely on tripping, we do offer over 9000 cubic inches of storage capacity, however we feel the 86-pound weight and short 19 feet 8 inches will be the stats that appeal to our customers. Although shorter, at only 25.5 inches wide there is an efficient water line that moves along well and keeps its hull speed even with paddlers of different strengths and during alternating paddler rests. As in most doubles the length and width make it difficult to turn with leaning and paddle strokes. To accommodate easier maneuverability we use the benefit of a foot controlled rudder system, for easier paddling. Impex Kayaks has worked hard to create a unique line of kayaks, we feel the Temiskawa is a great fit for those who don't see the need for alone time. |
