If you like a low maintenance canoe then replacing your existing seats with a blow-molded polyethylene seat is the way to go. The seat requires no maintenance and will serve you comfortably for many, many years. Replacement Backrest Strap for Old Town Molded Seat

This Strap kit replaces the Backrest adjustment strap on the following Old Town Seats that are made of BLACK molded plastic...

Old Town Discovery canoe seats that have a backrest.
Old Town Pack Angler canoe seats that have a backrest.
Old Town Guide canoe seats that have a backrest.
Kayaks with Old Town's Padded Kayak seat.
Kayaks with Old Town's Blow molded plastic seat.
Some of the classic Loon and Otter kayaks with Old Town's Roto molded plastic seat.

Features:

Old Town does not offer the same exact strap assembly that came on your seat.
The new strap will attach to one of the seat bolts on each side (usually the same way the old strap was attached.)
You can still adjust the left and right sides of the strap for the angle of the backrest.
The main difference is that this new Strap assembly adjusts both sides from behind the middle of the backrest, instead of an adjustment on each side.
This adjustment is a little more awkward to reach, but the benefit of this design is that the loose ends of strap are out of your way. Most will only adjust straps one time.

This includes one Replacement Strap assembly (a backrest is not included.)
